Itinerary

Day 1Arrival at Bagdogra Airport /New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. Travel to Phuentsholing.

Your Bhutan package from India commences as soon as you arrive either at the Bagdogra Airport or at the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. There, you will be first introduced to your groupmates, who will be accompanying you in this Bhutan trip, as well as to the trip lead, who will be assigned to the group to make all the upcoming experiences hassle-free and fun.

Then, you will start your journey towards the first stop of the trip which is the beautiful border town of Bhutan named Phuentsholing. Day 2Travel from Phuentsholing to Thimphu

As the day begins, enjoy breakfast at the hotel, check-out of the hotel, and then head out to the immigration office to acquire all the required permits that you will need later during the trip. For that, make sure to carry along your passport as well as a few passport sized photographs. Then, complete the procedure and the moment everyone gets their permits, the journey to Thimphu begins.

It is approximately a 4 to 5 hours long journey and you will cover around 150 km to reach the beautiful capital. While on the way, you will also be presented with many charming and soothing sights of the mountains and you can also take a break or two in between to enjoys the views. Later, as you reach Thimphu, check-in to the hotel, rest for a while, and then, if you feel like, head out with your travel mates to explore some nearby places.

As the night sets in, have dinner at the hotel before signing off for the day.

Day 3Sightseeing in Thimphu

Thimphu being the gorgeous capital as well as the largest city of Bhutan, it is essential that you reserve an entire day to cover all the major attractions. Therefore, the 3rd day of your trip is assigned to explore various places that are located in the capital. So, as usual, start your day with a scrumptious meal at the hotel and your first stop for the day would be Tashichho Dzong, which is a Buddhist monastery and fortress that was originally built in 1216 by Lama Gyalwa Lhanapa. The architecture of the place will surely grab your attention as the main complex of the building is two-storied comprising of three-storied towers at each of the four corners and the most significant feature is the triple-tiered golden roofs which crown the towers. Consisting of 30 temples, chapels, and shrines, Tashichö Dzong has served as the seat of Bhutan’s government since 1968.

After that, you can visit the National Library of Bhutan where there are some well-preserved ancient Bhutanese texts that mirror the philosophies that reigns the nation as well as many other important pieces of literature. Some other places that you can visit next are Tango Goemba and Changlimithang Stadium while making sure to spend your evening at the Buddha Point, another Buddhist sacred site, where you can be mesmerized by the absolute beauty of the setting sun. Also, make sure to get all the permits from the immigration office that will be required for Punakha and Chele La Pass. Later, end your day with a tasty dinner at the hotel.

Day 4Travel from Thimphu to Punakha

On this day of your Bhutan package, you will be led to the gorgeous valley of Punakha and it will turn out to be a journey of around 3 hours which will be filled with some really stunning vistas presented by the mountainous terrains of Bhutan as well as by the rivers Pho Chu and Mo Chu. Punakha is located at a distance of around 85 km from Thimphu and it is also known for being the former capital of Bhutan. So, check out from the hotel at Thimphu and get started on the journey ahead. One of the highlights of this journey is that you will be crossing Dochula Pass which rests amidst the snow-glazed Himalayas at an elevation of 3,100 m and you can also have your lunch here at the pass itself. It is a scenic place with 108 memorial chortens or stupas, known as “Druk Wangyal Chortens”, built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother.

Next, as you reach Punakha, you will be taken to the Punakha Suspension Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan, where you can spend some time, take many amazing shots, and revel in the beauty of the place and its surroundings. Your overnight stay will be at a hotel so check-in and then spend the rest of the day lazing around the place.

Day 5Travel from Punakha to Paro

The 5th day of your trip will take you to one of the most stunning towns in Bhutan i.e. Paro. Located in the Paro valley, the place blooms with natural gems and it is a delight that no one wants to skip on their trip to Bhutan. However, before commencing on the journey of about 4 hours, as you will have to cover a distance of 125 km, you can check a few popular places to visit in Punakha off your list. So, make sure to visit the Punakha Dzong which presents an excellent example of the Bhutanese architectural genius. It is the 2nd largest dzong in Bhutan and is hailed for its architecture while it also houses the sacred remains of the southern Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.

You can also visit Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten and then get started on your journey to Paro, a town which houses several scared Buddhist sites and places of interest. After you reach Paro, rest in your hotel rooms and enjoys a nice dinner before going to bed.

Day 6Sightseeing in Paro. Travel Back to Phuentsholing.

Paro is not only a religious hub but also a very romantic destination for all those who love staying amidst nature. As this day is kept for sightseeing in Paro, start early after having a relishing breakfast because there are many places that you will be visiting. Some of the most famous attractions of the town are Jangtsa Dumtseg Lhakhang, National Museum of Bhutan, Dasho Nishioka Chorten Museum, and Rinpung Dzong Monastery. Also, you can make a visit to Namgay Artisanal Brewery and taste some local flavours such as Bhutan Dark Ale and the Bhutan Red Rice Lager.

Afterward, you will be taken to the highest motorable point in Bhutan i.e. Chele La pass which is located at an altitude of 3,988 metres and just like the other passes in Bhutan, it holds a religious significance as well. Therefore, you will see many prayer flags adorning the pass which itself is very picturesque and pleasing. One major attraction on the way to Chele La pass is the Airport View Point which provides a bird’s eye view of the Paro Airport. So, you can take a halt at the place to capture some stunning scenes.

As you return back to Paro, spend some time enjoying several local delicacies and also try out some local cafes and hangout joints. Later, you will be traveling back to Phuentsholing for an overnight stay and this will take around 3 and a half hours. As you reach Phuentsholing, check-in to the hotel, have dinner, and then spend some time cherishing the memories you have made throughout the trip as the following day will be the day when you will be returning back to your place.

Day 7Drop at Bagdogra Airport /New Jalpaiguri Railway Station.

Being the last day of your Bhutan package from Delhi, you will be dropped at Bagdogra Airport /New Jalpaiguri Railway Station and as it will take around 5 hours to cover the journey, book your return tickets accordingly. Usually, it is advisable to get started on the day early so that you can reach Bagdogra Airport /New Jalpaiguri Railway Station at around 1 p.m.
