The two Dhams of Uttarakhand, Kedarnath and Badrinath, dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu respectively, hold great religious significance for Hindus all over the world. Every year, the shrine of Badrinath and Kedarnath witness lakhs of pilgrims seeking the blessings of the two greatest Gods and the Goddesses of the Hindu religion. The Kedarnath Yatra is a 16 kilometers long trek with tall snow-covered peaks in the backdrop and flowing rivers and waterfalls on the sides. The Kedarnath Badrinath tour is not only a religious Do Dham Yatra, but is also a serene and scenic journey in itself. Delhi (Airport or Railway Station)
In the morning
The Kedarnath-Badrinath tour will start with a drive to Haridwar. The distance between Delhi and Haridwar is about 220 kilometers, and it will take about 5 hours to cover this journey. Tired from the journey, you may rest at the hotel at Haridwar or enjoy the evening aarti and the Har ki Pauri Snaan. The town of Haridwar holds its own religious significance being a home to many Sadhus, and Ghats, where different Hindu rituals and practices take place. After staying overnight at Haridwar, we will leave for Guptkashi the next day, to begin our Journey for the first Dham on this Do Dham Yatra.
Haridwar to Guptkashi is comparatively a longer journey of about 200 kilometers through the hills and meadows, and will take about 7 hours to cover. As the journey to Kedarnath is a long and tiring trek, we will stay the night at Guptkashi and be rested and energized for the journey to follow. Lying on the Westside of the river Mandakini, the town of Guptkashi also holds religious significance as it is home to the Vishvanath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Guptkashi to Gaurikund is a small drive of about 22 kilometers. From Gaurikund, the Kedarnath temple is about 16 kilometers away, and can either be covered on foot or by Palki, Kandi or Ponies. Because the trek is a bit on the difficult side, it is advised that people with heart problems, hypertension or respiratory problems book Palkis or Ponies from Gaurikund. While the Kedarnath trek has its own religious and spiritual value, the picturesque views of the journey can also be an adrenaline fix for many youngsters. With the snow covered Greater Himalayan ranges in the background, and gushing waterfalls and glaciers on the sides, the Kedarnath Yatra is a beautiful experience in itself. The Kedarnath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, holds one of the 12 divine Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, and is the first Dham in this Do Dham Yatra tour. The temple is constructed in a typical Garhwali style, but holds great religious and mythological value. Because completing the two-way journey in a day can be pretty overwhelming, we shall spend the night at the top.
After seeking the blessings of Lord Shiva at the Kedarnath temple, we will head back to Gaurikund. Again the journey can be tough, so people with health issues are advised to take Palkis or Ponies from the top. Again, for those who like trekking, the downward trek, being easier than the upward journey can again be a beautiful and serene experience. On reaching Gaurikund, we will head back to Guptkashi which is again about 22 kilometers away.
After spending night at Guptkashi, we will head to our second destination on this Do Dham Yatra, which is the Badrinath temple. The distance between Guptkashi and Badrinath is about 200 kilometers, and will take about 8 hours to cover this trip. Badrinath temple is one of the most sacred temples of India, and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Situated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, at an elevation of about 3300 meters, the weather is mostly very cold. The best time to visit Badrinath is the months of May-June and September-October. Seeking blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi at the Badrinath temple holds great religious significance and is believed to provide great eternal joy and peace to the pilgrims. After staying overnight at the abode of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi, we will head down to Rudraprayag the next day.
The distance between Badrinath and Rudraprayag is about 160 kilometers, and will take about 6 to 7 hours to cover. The distance may be long but it is worth every minute. With tall mountains, silver rivers, gushing waterfalls and scenic beauty, the journey from Badrinath to Rudraprayag is enough to quench your thirst for peace and tranquility. Rudraprayag has its own religious importance as being one of the Paanch Prayags of the Holy River Alaknanda. Situated at an elevation of 895 meters, Rudraprayag is one of the prettiest towns of Uttarakhand.
The penultimate day of this Kedarnath Badrinath Tour Package will include journey from Rudraprayag to the town of Rishikesh. The town of Rishikesh, apart from holding its own religious significance, is a hub for adrenaline junkies. River rafting and camping are the two activities most loved by the tourists. After spending the night at Rishikesh, we will head to Delhi, the last stop of this Do Dham Yatra.
After covering a distance of about 240 kilometers from Rishikesh to Delhi, in about 6 hours, we will reach Delhi which will be the last stop of this serene journey to the Do Dham of Uttarakhand.
