What To Expect On Leh Ladakh Tour?

View:

Leh Ladakh is known for its ever-changing mind-blowing landscapes. This Ladakh tour starts from the beautiful town of Leh. As you are about to land at the airport, you get mesmerized by the birds-eye view of Ladakhi mountain ranges. The town of Leh has its own vibes and the view remains a blend of green and arid. Greenery in the center and encircled by barren mountains. As you move towards Nubra Valley via Khardung La (one of the highest motorable passes in the world), the landscape transforms and now you experience the desert, river, mountains, and a bit of greenery, all at the same place. This huge valley turns into a narrow one after entering Shyok Valley while approaching towards Pangong Tso lake. In the end, Pangong Tso overwhelms you with its surreal beauty and continuously changing colors

Places:

Leh Ladakh is one of the rare places in which one enjoys the destination as much as the journey. Starting from Leh, the town hosts several destinations including Shanti Stupa, Pathar Sahib Gurdwara, Magnetic Hill, Indus-Zanskar Confluence, Shey Palace, Thiksey Monastery, War Memorial, Hall of Fame, Zorawar Fort, Leh Palace, & Mall Road. In Nubra Valley, one can visit the Diskit Monastery and sand dunes. And after exploring the Pangong Tso lake, one can explore the famous Hemis Monastery and 3 Idiots school while returning from the lake.

Roads:

The roads of Ladakh are popular worldwide and due to which people from every corner of the world come here to do some adventure on motorcycles. The overall roads are good in Leh Ladakh except for a few patches and stream crossings. When approaching towards Nubra Valley, the road goes up all the way to the mighty Khardung La (17,582 feet) and then descends down to Khardung Village and further Nubra Valley. The road between Nubra Valley and Pangong Tso lake is quite interesting as it offers amazing views of mountains and valleys. One has to cross a stream near the Shyok village, which is considered a challenge on this route. It can be negotiated if crossed in the morning as the water level remains low. Then, the road from Pangong Tso to Leh goes via Chang La, which is also one of the highest motorable passes, perched at a height of 17,590 feet. Thought the road is not well laid out but its okay to ride on it. One completely enjoys driving or riding or traveling on the roads of Leh Ladakh.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival at Leh

The first day of your trip marks your arrival at Leh and you are assigned a hotel room for your stay where you can also enjoy a hearty meal. The first day is reserved for acclimatization as Leh is situated at a height of 11,500 feet, which is considered a high altitude. If you have some spare time at your hands, you can simply walk around the locale or you can just relax in the hotel and get recharged for the upcoming eventful days.
Later, have dinner, spend some fun time with your travel companions, and then call it a day.

Day 2Leh Local Sightseeing

This day is reserved for visiting places in and around Leh and some of the tourist hotspots that you can cover are Shanti Stupa, Thiksey Monastery, Magnetic Hill, Shey Monastery, Leh Palace, Pathar Sahab Gurudwara, War Memorial and Hall of Fame. All of these places help you marvel at the beautiful diversity and cultural heritage this region holds. Also, the confluence of Indus River & Zanskar River is another breath-taking sight that draws in the attention of the visitors.

It is recommended that you visit Shanti Stupa at dusk because that’s the time when sunlight adds to the beauty of the entire setting and provides the best frame. Leh is also like a dream of every single shutterbug out there and you are offered plenty of chances to click some wonderfully amazing shots. Finally, have dinner at the hotel and sleep for the night.

Day 3Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La

One of the most important days in this Leh Ladakh trip as you travel to the mighty Khardung La pass. This high altitude pass arrives when you travel from Leh to Nubra Valley. Khardung La holds a special place in Leh Ladakh due to reasons such as it is linked to the Siachen Glacier and acts as an all-weather road for the Indian Army, standing at a very high altitude of 17,582 feet above the sea level, and sometime back it had a title of being the highest motorable pass in the world. You cover a distance of around 160 km on this day, therefore, make sure to start your day during the early hours of the morning so you can later spare some time to have fun at Khardung La and Nubra Valley. The journey turns out to be an experience of a lifetime, especially when you cross Khardung La pass and explore the Nubra Valley.

As soon as you reach Nubra Valley, don’t miss out on enjoying an ATV ride as well as a ride on the two-humped Bactrian camels (a local attraction) in Nubra Valley. Apart from this, you also get to visit the Diskit monastery having a tall Maitreya Buddha Statue, which quite a good sight to test your photography skills. Dinner and overnight stay are arranged in camps.

Day 4Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso via Shyok

Get up in the morning, have your breakfast, and then start your drive towards Pangong Tso, one of the most stunning lakes in India. The journey from Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso takes around 7 hours and you travel for a distance of more than 270 km. On your way, you drive through Shyok valley and come across some more pleasant vistas. As you reach your destination for the day i.e. Pangong Tso, click some amazing shots of the picture-perfect lake and also spend some time admiring the splendid beauty that nature has gifted the region with.
Dinner and overnight stay in camps.

Day 5Pangong Tso to Leh via Chang La

On the 5th day, you heading back to Leh and it takes approximately 7 hours to cover a distance of 225 km. So, bid adieu to the gorgeous campsite after eating the breakfast and get ready to drive through one more mountain pass that is Chang La. Perching up to an elevation of 17,590 ft, Chang La pass is another motorable mountain pass in the Ladakh region and is adorned with several prayer flags. After crossing the pass, you visit the famous Hemis monastery located in the Hemis village followed by 3 Idiots school. If time allows and if any place is left to explore in Leh, then you can visit on this day.

After you arrive at Leh, freshen-up at your hotel rooms and then spend the rest of the day visiting the local market and trying out a couple of cafes and eateries. Make sure, you are done with your shopping and other things in the market of Leh as this is your last night at Leh Ladakh Tour. Afterward, head back to the hotel and spend some time with your travel mates. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

Ladakh was our first trip with Happy Go Trips and it was truly unforgettable. We were a group of 6 friends and we had a customized tour beautifully planned by the team. The bikes they provided for Nubra and Pangong sighstseeing were also good in condition and team leader were so humble and nice person which made the overall experience better. Hotels and other services like food were also good. Really enjoyed and had our time. Thanks Happy Go Trips. Spiti next year for sure 😀
