Meghalaya Tour Package Details

Meghalaya, literally the “abode of clouds”, is a beautiful little state in the North-Eastern part of India, which is famous for its rainfall record, among other things, in places like Cherrapunji and Mawsynram. It bears witness to the geographic as well as socio-cultural diversity of the country; inter alia, one can see the ‘matrilineal’ society of Meghalaya which is a far cry from the toxic masculine chauvinism and patriarchy existing in most of the mainland, and indeed even across the world. The Meghalaya Tour Package covers all the main destinations such as Shillong, Cherrapunjee, Dawki, Mawlynnong, and the popular waterfalls.

The best time to visit Meghalaya is definitely during the summer, especially if one is traveling from the scorching heat of the mainland, as the temperature here remains moderate, rarely going above 30 degrees whether it be night or day. In addition, there are many regional and cultural festivals during this time, starting from the spring harvest season, which you might be lucky to catch a glimpse of if the stars align, adding another dimension to your trip. So come join us on this comprehensive Meghalaya Tour Package as we take you across the length and breadth of this beautiful state. It is prudent to be advised that this area sees massive amounts of rainfall so avoid the monsoon season if you don’t want to just stay stuck in the hotel.

From Guwahati, you will be taken to Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya via Umiam Lake, also known as Barapani Lake, which offers boating and other water adventure sports. If you’re the more serene type, just sit by the water and bask in the tranquility, and of course, click photographs that would require no editing, such is the raw beauty of this place.

Day 2Shillong to Cherrapunjee via Laitlum canyons.

The next day of your Shillong tour will begin bright and early after breakfast, as we take you to Cherrapunji, also known traditionally and locally as Sohra, which is famous for having the world record of the highest rainfall in a year as well as in a calendar month, at 1041.8 inches and 370 inches respectively. En route, you will see the Laitlum canyons, the spectacular gorge which offers a beautiful and picturesque scenic trek and loads of breathtaking photographic vistas in this naturally verdant, rocky cleft.

Day 3Trek to Double Decker Bridge & Rainbow falls.

Among the most famous Shillong tourist places are the Double Decker Bridge and Rainbow Falls, the former being a testament to the innovation and rootedness of the Meghalayan people who have used natural roots and foliage to interweave some beautiful bridges, prime among them being the famous Double Decker Bridge. Crossing the water stream below on this unique double-layered bridge is a veritable experience in and of itself, deep in the natural reserves of the Meghalayan forests. From there, we head to the nearby Rainbow Falls, one of the many famous waterfalls that exists in pristine condition to this day despite tourist connectivity; taking in their splendor is a sight to behold unlike any other and it will definitely leave a lasting impression on you as you explore deeper and deeper into the bounty of nature in Meghalaya.

Day 4Cherrapunjee waterfalls sightseeing (Nohkalikai falls, elephant falls, 7sister falls). Transfer to Dawki via Mawlynnong village.

The next day is dedicated exclusively to more such beautiful waterfalls, as we take you on a holistic ride with ample relaxation time from the Nohkalikai Falls which is the tallest plunge waterfall in India at a height of 340 meters and cascades beautifully dangerously when viewed up close; then onwards to the famous Elephant Falls (also known as ‘Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew’ by the local Khasi community, literal meaning: ‘Three Steps Falls’) which has a unique multi-tiered structure as well as a stair path for tourists to get as close as is safe; and the Seven Sisters Falls (or Nohsngithiang Falls as the local Khasis call them) which are the fourth highest waterfall in the country. The Seven Sisters Falls have a height of about 1040 feet and are divided into seven distinct segments, which is how they got their name. This entire day of your Meghalaya Tour dedicated to the plenteous and sublime waterfalls is the crowning highlight of the Shillong Cherrapunji tour and a truly miraculous, once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience, even for domestic tourists and travelers let alone foreign tourists or backpackers from anywhere in the world.

Unlike the usual commercialized activities, Meghalaya by contrast offers nature in its purest, most pristine state, thanks to the efforts of the government but mostly the local people themselves, who have made sure to retain the innocence and sanctity of the place through strict laws and community-level measures, raising awareness and doing intermittent cleaning drives. Finally, in the evening you will be taken to Dawki for your overnight stay passing through the beautiful Mawlynnong village, which holds the distinction of being the cleanest place in Asia!

Day 5Boat ride & water activities. Transfer to Shillong via Krangsuri waterfall.

After an overnight rest, the next day you will get to experience the true beauty and splendor of this picturesque village, with boating and other water-based adventure activities on your way back to Shillong via the Krangsuri waterfall. The crystal clear water of Umngot River in ‘God’s Own Garden’ will leave you breathless, and a leisurely boat ride on this water will be a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
