DO’s
- Before embarking on your Ladakh journey, it’s essential to check weather conditions. This helps you pack smartly and prepare better for the journey.
- Allow your body to acclimatize to the high altitude for at least 48 hours after arriving in Leh to avoid altitude sickness.
- Stay well-hydrated at all times. Carry sufficient water, along with snacks and energy drinks, to maintain your energy levels in the high-altitude environment.
- Plan your visit between May and September, when the mountain passes are open, and Ladakh reveals its most vibrant and scenic side.
- Pack wisely. Include heavy winter clothes, cotswool, woollen clothing, a winter cap, gloves, sturdy walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a good moisturiser to protect yourself from harsh weather conditions.
- Carry a well-equipped first-aid kit with all essential medicines. If you are on any prescribed medication, make sure to include those as well.
- Keep extra batteries or power banks for your camera and mobile devices, as the electricity supply can be limited in certain regions.
- Respect local traditions, customs, and religious sentiments. Always seek permission before photographing people or religious sites, and be mindful of wildlife.
- When visiting monasteries, ask for permission from monks or authorities before clicking pictures within the premises.
- Ensure you have all necessary permits and documents. Certain areas, especially near border regions, require Inner Line Permits, which can be obtained online or from authorities in Leh.
- Carry valid identification at all times while planning for Ladakh packages from Leh. Indian travellers should have ID proof such as an Aadhaar card or driving licence, while international travellers must carry passports, visa copies, and travel insurance documents.
Keep sufficient cash with you, as ATM availability is limited in Ladakh.
Don’ts
- Avoid consuming alcohol or smoking, especially during the initial days, as your body needs time to adjust to the high altitude. However, best to avoid it altogether.
- Do not disturb or harm the region’s flora and fauna while exploring Ladakh’s natural landscapes.
- Avoid littering during treks or outdoor activities. Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem and cultural heritage demand responsible and sustainable tourism practices
