Itinerary

Day 1Arrival at Paro Airport

As soon as you arrive at Paro Airport, you will meet the trip lead who will escort you to the hotel. However, before leaving, make sure to acquire all the Bhutan permits for the upcoming days of your trip.

After checking-in to your hotel room, you can relax and shake off the tiredness caused by traveling for hours. If you arrive during the early hours of the day and, hence, have some time to spare, you can spend the evening exploring the local cafes and eating joints. Later, as the night comes in, eat a delicious dinner at the hotel and sleep to restore your energy for the upcoming adventures.

Day 2Hike to Tiger’s Nest

The day begins with a hearty breakfast at the hotel and then you will be ticking off one of the most coveted attractions in the Land of the Thunder Dragon, i.e. Tiger’s Nest, from your Bhutan bucket-list. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that a visit to Paro is incomplete without trekking to Tiger’s Nest, which is a prominent Himalayan Buddhist sacred site and a marvellously built temple complex. There are many legends associated with the place and according to one of the them, Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) flew to the said location from Tibet on the back of a tigress from Khenpajong. Tiger’s Nest harbours its very own charm which is a mixture of serenity, exciting legends, and the amazing views of the mountains. The total distance covered (both ways) during the hike is around 8 km and it is a fairly easy hike.

The trail is absolutely stunning and you will come across lush greenery, prayer flags, blue pine trees, streams, and vendors selling several items of worship. As you reach the monastery, you will feel a sense of calm taking over your mind and the landscape presented by the monastery is totally awe-inspiring as well. Moreover, the view of Paro Valley from up there is also an entirely different experience but don’t get too caught up in the views presented from Tiger’s Nest because it itself houses a variety of things that will leave you amazed. One of the most striking things about the monastery is its architecture and the next is how beautifully it encapsulates both spirituality and religion.

After completing the hike, return to your hotel rooms and end the day by having a nice dinner.

Day 3Travel from Paro to Thimphu

Start the day with a filling breakfast at the hotel and then head towards the capital of Bhutan, i.e. Thimphu. The distance between Paro and Thimphu is around 50 km which will take approximately 2 hours to cover. Thimphu is an exciting city brimming with life and tourists and the ride as well is very refreshing with the mountains following you throughout the way.

Home to a number of attractions, Thimphu welcomes you by presenting several places of interest. So, after you arrive at the capital, you can visit some places as you will have plenty of time to spare. Later, check-in to your hotel rooms and rest for the night after having dinner.

Day 4Sightseeing in Thimphu

This day is exclusively reserved to explore the many places in Thimphu so get ready in the morning, have breakfast, and head out to explore the capital. Your first stop will be the famous Tashichho Dzong which is a beautiful Buddhist monastery known for its striking architecture that includes triple-tiered golden roofs and 30 temples, chapels, and shrines. It also hosts the annual festival of Tsechu so if you plan your visit accordingly, you can also get a chance to be a part of all the local festivities. The dzong also poses stunningly at night.

Then, you can visit the National Library of Bhutan which presents the ultimate source to learn about the various facets of the Bhutanese culture and its history. Some other places to check out in Thimphu are Tango Goemba, Changlimithang Stadium, Changangkha Lhakhang, National Memorial Chorten, and Clock Tower Square. Afterward, go to Buddha Point in the evening and marvel at the grand statue of Buddha while the sun sets in. You can spend the rest of the day strolling around the local marketplace and trying out different delicacies.

Day 5Travel from Thimphu to Punakha

On this day of your Bhutan tour, you will be covering a distance of 85 km between Thimphu and Punakha, which is another beautiful Bhutanese town as well as the ex-capital of Bhutan, and it will take you around 3 hours to reach Punakha. It is suggested that you start your day early so that you are left with adequate time to visit a few places in Punakha as well.

On the way, you will also cross Dochula Pass which rests at a height of 3,100 metres and where there have been built 108 memorial chortens or stupas known as “Druk Wangyal Chortens”. The journey is an enthralling one which also serves you with some striking views of the snow-capped Himalayas. Later, as you reach Punakha, you will be taken to the Punakha Suspension Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan, which presents a sight of a kind. The entire setting is very picturesque with the prayer flags hanging on the bridge and the mighty mountains adding to the beauty of the frame. Spend some time at the bridge, take some pictures, and then head to your stay for the night. Check-in and then have dinner and call it a day.

Day 6Travel from Punakha to Paro

The day begins with a nice breakfast at the hotel and then on schedule for the day is a journey from Punakha to Paro, which is a quaint town located in Paro Valley. The distance between the two towns is around 125 km and will require almost 4 hours to cover. So, before leaving for Paro, you will still have a couple of hours to visit some important places in Punakha which include the immensely popular Punakha Dzong as well as Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a Buddhist temple.

Reach Paro by the evening and check-in to your hotel rooms and get a good night’s sleep after enjoying a delicious dinner.

Day 7Sightseeing in Paro

Paro is a popular town of Bhutan that is home to several monasteries and sacred sites. Therefore, you will spend this day exploring the town which houses a multitude of attractions such as such as Jangtsa Dumtseg Lhakhang Temple, Zuri Dzong Fort, National Museum of Bhutan, Namgay Artisanal Brewery, Dasho Nishioka Chorten Museum, and Rinpung Dzong Monastery.

Another exciting part of the day is traveling to the highest motorable pass in Bhutan i.e. Chele La pass. It perches up to an elevation of 3,988 metres above the sea level and midway, there also comes the Airport View Point from where you can get a panoramic view of Paro Airport. Later, spend the evening trying out some local cafes in Paro.

Day 8Drop at Paro Airport

This is the day when you wrap up the Bhutan package and bid farewell to your beautiful host country while you get dropped at Paro Airport.
