While the history of how these four temples formed a combined sacred pilgrimage of char dham is not known, however each one has its own history and stories linked to its holiness and divine powers. It is said that every person should visit the char dham at least once, in their lifetime. The char dham yatra is not only famous for its ability to cleanse one of all his sins, but also protects one from untimely death. This Char Dham tour package is for every Hindu who believes in the unfettered powers of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. Starting with the sacred waters of Yamunotri, and the holy waters of Gangotri, to the highest situated Shivling in Kedarnath, and the Badrinath temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this char dham yatra package will make you experience the heavenly bliss of the four, most sacred Hindu temples, situated in the North India, in the State of Uttarakhand. While the government of India has now effectively improved the connectivity to the chhota char dam, the old stories show sadhus and people, in search of heavenly bliss, walking barefoot through the hilly terrains of Uttarakhand to complete the char dham yatra and attain the eternal bliss. Now, not only the sadhus or the pujaris, but also people from other social and economic background can achieve the eternal bliss of the char dham. The first day of the trip will start with a journey by road from Delhi to Haridwar. It is a 5 hours long ride, via NH334. Haridwar, also known as the ‘The Gateway to Lord Vishnu’, is a small city in the State of Uttarakhand and an ancient Hindu pilgrimage. Famous for its Ganga Snaan, and Har ki Paudi, the holy city also holds an evening Aarti which is both religiously and aesthetically pleasing. People of every corner of the country visit this city to cleanse their sins and take the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Ganga ma.
After having a fulfilling breakfast at the Holy city of Haridwar, we will leave for the town of Barkot, which is the last town near the first holy stop of our journey: Yamunotri. Situated on the banks of River Yamuna, at an elevation of 1220 metres, Barkot is surrounded by tall Himalayan peaks giving it a quiet and silent essence.
The third day will take you to the heavenly abode of River Yamuna, the second most sacred river in India. The Yamunotri glacier is the origin of the River Yamuna and the abode of Goddess Yamuna. Yamunotri temple, built by king of Tehri, Naresh Sudarshan Shah, in the year 1839, is the first stop on the journey of the chhota char dham yatra. Goddess Yamuna, the daughter of the Sun, and the sister of Yama, is believed to be seated at an elevation of 3,293 meters in the lap of the Yamunotri glacier. After bowing our heads to the sacred river of Yamuna, we shall drive back to the town of Barkot for night stay.
Uttarkashi, also known as Shivnagri, will be the stop on the 4th day of the trip. A 3 hours long journey from Barkot to Uttarkashi shows gushing waterfalls, green meadows, tall mountains and the snow covered peaks of the Himalayan range. Uttarkashi, a home to several temples and ashrams is the stop before the 2nd Dham of this char dham yatra, Gangotri.
After taking the blessings of Goddess Yamuna, then is the time to take Snaan in the holy abode of Goddess Ganga, the town of Gangotri, situated around the temple of Gangotri. While the town of Gangotri stays cold throughout the year, however still the best time to visit Gangotri is the months of April to June and September to October. River Ganga originates from the Gangotri glacier, also known as Gaumukh, which is about 20 km away from the town of Gangotri. After taking blessings of the Indians Gods and Goddesses at the temple of Gangotri, the second Dham among the Char Dhams, we will drive back to the town of Uttarkashi.
Heading towards the next Dham, which is the Holy Abode of Lord Shiva, the Kedarnath temple, first we’ll stop at the town of Guptkashi. On an 8 hours long drive from Uttarkashi to Guptkashi, you shall witness the picturesque views of great Himalayan range, snow covered peaks and pouring waterfalls. The town of Guptkashi lies a few kilometers before the holy shrine at Kedarnath. Lying on the westside of the river Mandakini, the town also holds religious significance being home to the Vishvanath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Guptkashi to Kedarnath is a total distance of 22 kilometers. After covering the distance on day 7, we shall start our trek to kedarnath temple, the 3rd stop on the Chhota Char Dham yatra. The trek is a total distance of 16 kilometers from Gaurikund to Kedarnath. It is comparatively a difficult and steep trek, so people with heart problems, respiratory problems or hypertension are advised to take Palki, Kandi or Ponies from Gaurikund. People who are experienced at trekking will enjoy the picturesque and scenic views of the journey. Waterfalls, rivers, snow covered peaks in the backdrop, are some of the many striking views witnessed during the Kedarnath trek.
As Kedarnath is a difficult trek, we shall not overburden you with covering a two-way trek in a single day. After taking the blessings of Lord Shiva, and staying overnight near the Kedarnath temple, we shall leave for Gaurikund early morning on the 8th day of this char dham yatra. Thereafter, we shall leave for Guptkashi where we will stay overnight, rest and prepare ourselves for the fourth, and the last Dham of this trip, the Badrinath temple.
The distance between Guptkashi and Badrinath is about 200 kilometers, and will take about 8 hours to cover this trip. We will start from Guptkashi in the morning and reach Badrinath in the evening. Badrinath is a small town in the Chamoli District of Uttarakhand holding great religious significance, as it is home to the great Badrinath temple, also the fourth and the last holy Dham among the Char Dhams. After reaching Badrinath, you can buy Prasad for your loved ones, and bow your head to the great temple and abode of Lord Vishnu, the Badrinath temple. In the shadow of the great Neelkanth peak, the Badrinath temple witnesses thousands of pilgrims every year. It is said that after covering all char Dhams, the pilgrims achieves complete mental tranquility.
After spending a night in the Holy abode of Lord Vishnu, we will head back Rudraprayag, which will again take about 6 hours to cover. Rudraprayag, named after the Rudra Roop of Lord Shiva, is one of the five convergences (Five Prayags) of the Alaknanda River. Surrounded by flowing rivers, beautiful lakes, and picturesque mountains, Rudraprayag is one of the most beautiful towns of Uttarakhand, situated at an elevation of 895 meters.
After spending night at Rudraprayag, we will head towards Rishikesh in the morning of the 11th day of the trip. The distance between Rudraprayag and Rishikesh is about 141 kilometers, which will take about 5 hours to cover. Rishikesh is famous for its camping sites and river rafting. While river rafting can seem risky and dangerous to a few, it’s the perfect adrenaline fix for many adrenaline junkies.
After spending night under the starry sky of Rishikesh, we will head back to Delhi the next day, which will also be the last day of this Char Dham Tour Package. After covering a distance of about 240 kilometers, in about 6 hours, we will reach Delhi which will be the last stop of this serene journey to the char dham of Uttarakhand.

The Char Dham Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage to four Hindu shrines in Uttarakhand — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. These temples represent the spiritual sources of India’s four holy rivers and are believed to wash away sins and lead to moksha (salvation).
