Prashar Lake (or Parashar Lake) is a sacred lake enclosed by an enchanting landscape amidst the snow-peaked mountains of Himachal Pradesh. It attracts a lot of trekkers throughout the year because it is a comparatively easy trek which in no way compromises with the natural aesthetic. The trek starts from Baggi Village and stretches for around 9 km, passing through the meadows and oak forests. The entire trail comprises of forests, streams, and soothing views of the snow-covered mountains.
The trek starts from Baggi which is a small village located at an approx. 2-hour drive from Mandi. After you reach the base camp, i.e. baggi, you can enjoy a decent breakfast at the place while enjoying the view of the mountains and river Beas. There is also a small shop nearby from where you can buy some basic essentials as well as some snacks. After you get familiarized with your trek mates and trek lead, the trek will begin by crossing over the river through a tunnel like bridge. The initial 500 metres test the trekkers as that patch is a little steep but then it is a gradual climb for a while. On some days, the trail gets changed due to heavy rains and trekkers have to snake their ways out of some of the narrow patches. There is also a small waterfall which is another gem that you come across during the trek. Almost throughout the climb, the views are stunning and soothing. Then, you reach a meadow which is a good spot to gaze upon the snow-laden Dhauladhars and take a small break and have your lunch. Afterward, the trek ascends gradually while allowing you to take in the beautiful environ.
As you reach your destination, i.e. Prashar Lake, you will be stunned by the surreal beauty of the lake, its floating island, the three-tiered pagoda temple dedicated to sage Prashar which rests beside the lake, and the surrounding mountains. The entire scene is so picturesque that you may as well forget that you have made a laborious climb. You can spend some time taking pictures, talking to the locals, and having tea and some snacks at a small teashop located nearby. After that, head to the campsite and enjoy your overnight stay in a tent. The nights there are dead silent so you can also either enjoy a bonfire or simply spend some time stargazing.
As the day begins, make sure that you get to see the amazing sunrise. Then, enjoy the breakfast and head back to the base camp i.e. Baggi village. You can either opt for a ride to reach Baggi or trek your way back down to the village, the latter being the more exciting one. From there, you can head back to Mandi.
